new print . tag

this painting ~ 'orange trees' ~ is finished and i made a print of it, which is now in the shop. i was so excited about finishing it and having a painting on linen that is ready to hang in the shop but noticed after the second coat of varnish that there are a few tiny pieces of fibre?? or something caught in the varnish. they would never be seen from the wall but now that i know they are there i feel that it might be a disappointment to a potential buyer . . . mmmm. how to keep loose filaments?? away from drying paint and varnish??

my creative space

i was really wondering this morning how creative my space would get today ~ i've had to give up coffee, alcohol, chilli and anything acidic for at least 10 days due to a very tedious stomach condition which causes shocking reflux! and oh, how it hurts to stop the coffee after having 2-3 a day as i pleased. the other stuff i can live without, although i realise they make life fun!
it's day 3 and i'm still struggling without the coffee. have been drinking tea but am not such a fan and it just doesn't do what coffee can do {for me anyway, i know so many of you love tea!} . . . whinge, whinge {am just so glad i am not an actual drug addict!}
it took me way longer than usual to get started.
these are part of a series which includes a print i made for the 'feed your soul' project. the lovely jen from indiefixx invited me to contribute a print which will go up in june ~ you can download it for free then {i'll post them all when they are finished}.

my creative space

my space today is the back of the house and outside. i have my little one home today recovering from 3 days and nights of fevers. we are a little jaded! i need to be at the back of the house {loungeroom onwards} while he's asleep as my usual up and down the hallway to get water/coffee/food/sponges/u name it/ when i'm working at home alone would definitely wake him up. so, i'm still working today, but it's baby steps . . .

this painting is finished and at the varnishing stage. there's just a bit of paint that went over the edges that need to be sanded off. i mainly want the black to come off, i actually don't mind a little of the other colours showing as they are tiny reminders of the layers of colour that went into the painting. how 'finished' do you think painting edges should look??

in shoe news: these super sturdy comfy red birkenstock clogs are the shoes i ended up buying! i did see some beautiful campers that i would love to have bought but chose these instead as campers may only last me a couple of months - i seem to wear shoes out at an incredible rate {even birkenstocks}. these ones already look a year old and they were new on mothers day . . .

with this weather, it's hard not to be influenced by all the crafty crocheting bloggers who are making beautiful grannies!! i succumbed and made a couple - and i'm not trying to intimidate anyone with my colour choices, i'm totally predictable i know! they are pretty klunky as the white wool is about 12+ ply and the middle colours are either 8 or 10 ply, never mind . . .

hope your week is off to a good start :)

friday . work in progress

this is today's effort in its stages {unfinished}. i may have been influenced by the grey day outside using the muted blue/green/grey. i'm not a fan of the actual grey day, moodwise, but i do love how it makes the all the other colours in the world pop out.
this one is on stretched linen. i'm now a convert to linen! i've only painted on canvas before and i really love the texture and feel of this linen compared.

do you have anything fun planned for the end of week??

creative space . fake light

today melbourne showed us winter and with the cold came the dark indoor spaces. i worked with fake light, which u can see in this picture of the view out the window above my desk. i always feel conspicous working with the light on and the blinds up as i know how easy it is for people to see in under these conditions!
thanks to photoshop's 'image~adjustments~shadows/highlights' feature my photos came out ok. i use this function quite a lot.

hope your wed/thursday has been a creative one. to see more creative spaces go to kootoyoo :)

there is something very exciting and encouraging about reading through my google reader and discovering this designmilk feature on a tuesday morning. the first half of the week is ususally very domestic for me {you may see little pointers to this in these photos}, so this is a great surprise. {thanks to jaime}!
hope your week is starting up :)

happy mothers day weekend :)

friday . work!

another friday happily lost to painting, listening to music, drinking coffee and generally re-balancing my tired brain {i seem to get stressed so much more easily if i don't get enough time to paint}! what more could i want from a friday?
this is one that i started the other day and i think it is finished.
lately i've been listing pieces like these as prints rather than as original pieces {in the shop}, which i hope is not like releasing a movie straight to dvd! what do you think about having work available as originals vs prints and the option of both available simultaneously??

i hope your friday has been great :)

my creative space

my creative space today was like living in a day time disco. the sun switched on, the sun switched off – it was slightly dark, it was over exposed! interesting side effects of having natural light shining on my desk. am not complaining, as i love to look out occasionally.
i've started work on some new drawings - i have a little deadline looming! more on this later. i have quite a few on the go or just started {a good feeling}.
as you can see, the coffees are helping and going down too well. am having 3 a day now, ooops! it's so hard not to when the machine calls me from the kitchen.

hope you've had a creative/good day. to see more creative spaces/play along go visit kirsty at kootoyoo :)

artists who blog

i've done an interview with Stephie Levy on her artists who blog blog, which is very exciting {thanks Stephanie}! if you don't already follow this blog, go have a look as there are some amazing artists interviewed in this series. Stephanie makes very gorgeous work - here is her shop.
also, on may 9 artists who blog is turning 1 and there will be an interview posted each day this week to celebrate!

i missed my saturday shopping this week, if i get time i'll make a midweek post . . .

the weekend went really well – the look of surprise on dad's face when he saw us there was worth all the sweaty palm stress/fear of flying to get there! {i tried really hard to calm my mind and 'relax' on the take off + landing but i noticed that even tho i felt ok, my palms reminded me that actually i hate flying}. it was fun to meet all dad's work mates too. this is the view from the surf life saving club. the bottom pic is a combi fest on the highway heading to byron - i couldn't resist a pic from the back seat.

hope you are having a peaceful sunday nite/monday morning :)
